THE INSPIRATION

The son rehearsed a speech the whole way home and never got to finish it. His father saw him a great way off, which means the old man had been watching that road for a long time. Then he ran. In that culture a grown man did not run, and this one did it in front of the whole village to reach his boy before the village did. There is no probation in this story, no earning back. There is a robe, a ring and a feast, and a father who never stopped looking down the road.
